1. Hussain Sagar Lake
Spanning around 5.7 square kilometres, Hussain Sagar Lake is one of the largest artificial lakes in Asia. Built during the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in 1563, it was originally designed to meet the water and irrigation needs of the city. The lake’s centrepiece is the imposing Gautama Buddha statue installed in 1992, which stands on Gibraltar Rock in the middle of the lake. Hussain Sagar offers various recreational activities such as boating, and the surrounding Necklace Road is a popular promenade for evening strolls and street food.

2. Osman Sagar Lake (Gandipet Lake)

Named after the youngest son of the last Nizam, Himayat Ali Khan, the lake offers a similar scenic charm with its lush greenery and tranquil waters. It’s a favoured destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat amidst nature, away from the city’s hustle.
Location: Adjacent to Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar Lake is also located southwest of Hyderabad, about 20 kilometres from the city center, near the Hyderabad-Mumbai Highway.
4. Shamirpet Lake
Situated approximately 24 kilometres north of Hyderabad, Shamirpet Lake is a natural freshwater lake surrounded by rocky outcrops and lush vegetation. Its serene ambiance and pristine beauty make it a pop ular destination for picnickers, nature enthusiasts, and bird watchers. Boating facilities are available, allowing visitors to explore the lake’s expanse while admiring the scenic landscape.
Location: Located around 24 kilometres north of Hyderabad’s city centre, Shamirpet Lake can be reached via the Karimnagar Highway (NH 44).
5. Durgam Cheruvu (Secret Lake)
